The Calgary Stampede is governed by a volunteer board of directors comprised of 20 directors elected by shareholders, seven appointees, and the immediate past president. Day-to-day operations of the Stampede are carried out by more than 1,200 year-round employees, overseen by an executive management team led by CEO Vern Kimball.
The Stampede is one of the most respected volunteer organizations in the world. Forty-three committees and over 2,300 community volunteers contribute leadership, time, and energy to organize events and activities. Stampede shareholders are also volunteers. Their shares do not grant dividends or appreciate, nor can they be sold. Every March, shareholders elect the board of directors at the annual general meeting.
Strategic Plan 2013 – 2015
For over 100 years the Calgary Stampede has been the heart and soul of our city. It is both where and how we come together to celebrate our unique brand of western hospitality and community spirit. As we embark on the next chapter of our story, we will deliver EXCEPTIONAL EXPERIENCES that entertain, educate and engage visitors; we will build INSPIRED SPACES to bring our community together to celebrate; and we will further ENERGIZE THE BRAND that has come to define our city. Our vision is to create a WORLD-CLASS, YEAR-ROUND GATHERING PLACE in the heart of our great city. The Calgary Stampede’s Strategic Plan 2013 – 2015 will keep us focused on achieving our vision.
