As an organization, we are known for creating exceptional experiences for our guests. It’s this same spirit that inspires our outstanding work. In 2018, we were recognized by our industry peers for the following awards.

Ad Rodeo – Anvil Awards

Marketing & Advertising Award

The Anvil Awards were developed to honour excellence in advertising, design and development, and to recognize the individuals and organizations responsible for creating this work across the prairie provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

Calgary Stampede won two awards in 2018 for work on the It’s A Stampede Thing campaign:

S - 83 Special Delivery – Top Bareback Horse of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo

T-65 Tiger Warrior – Top Saddle Bronc Horse of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo

Two Calgary Stampede horses were recognized for their athletic abilities at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo in 2018. Special Delivery was named the top Bareback horse of the Rodeo and Tiger Warrior received recognition as the best Saddle Bronc horse.

Ponoka Stampede

U-38 Urgent Delivery – Top Horse of the Ponoka Stampede

On July 2nd, 2018 Urgent Delivery was chosen as the top Saddle Bronc horse of the Ponoka Stampede. A unique trophy halter is awarded to the winner of this honour, and now has a special home in the Calgary Stampede Rodeo Office.

Night Moves – Top Bull of the Calgary Stampede

T-65 Tiger Warrior – Top Saddle Bronc Horse of the Stampede

Voted on by the six pro rodeo officials at the Calgary Stampede, these awards are given to the animals with the best overall performance during the ten days of rodeo competition. For the third year in a row, Tiger Warrior was selected as the best Saddle Bronc horse. Best bull of the Stampede was awarded to the feisty black bull that goes by the name Night Moves.

X-89 Xavier Joan – Bareback, Go-Round Buckle

T-19 Tootsie Roll – Bareback, Go-Round Buckle

With the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) moving from Edmonton to Red Deer for the first time this November, fans, athletes and organizers experienced the 45-year-old event in a whole new way. One thing that didn’t change was the strong contingent of Calgary Stampede bucking horses and bulls selected by the cowboys of the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association to compete in Red Deer October 30 -November 4. Two Bareback horses each captured a trophy buckle for go-round wins, while one Saddle Bronc also earned the honour.

S-66 Stampede Warrior - 2018 Canadian Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year

Night Moves - 2018 Canadian Bull of the Year.

Two special Calgary Stampede athletes were recognized on the third evening of competition at the Canadian Finals Rodeo, November 1, 2019. Stampede Warrior was honoured after being named by the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association the top Saddle Bronc Horse in Canada for 2018. The 12-year-old horse is a daughter of six-time World Champion, Grated Coconut. Six-year-old Stampede bucking bull Night Moves was also recognized that evening after being voted 2018 Canadian Bull of the Year.

Y U R Frisky – Saddle Bronc, Go-Round Buckle

T-19 Tootsie Roll - Bareback, Go-Round Buckle

15 Calgary Stampede bucking horses were invited to compete under the bright lights of Las Vegas at the National Finals Rodeo December 6-15, 2018, the most horses of any Canadian stock contractor. Seven Stampede horses wowed the crowds in Saddle Bronc, and eight competed in Bareback. Two performances stood out from the rest, with Y U R Frisky and Tootsie Roll each being recognized with a trophy buckle for carrying a cowboy to a winning ride.

The White Hat Awards recognize the amazing ambassadors of Calgary. These are the people who go above and beyond to make their guests’ experiences a memorable one. This year, the Calgary Stampede was proud to have 33 nominees. Among those, we had one recipient and two finalists:
