Dustin Stirling
Band of Outriders, Director
After dedicating 11 years as a performing saxophonist and 3 years as Assistant Director of the Band of Outriders, Dustin stepped into the Director role in the fall of 2022.
An avid lover of music with high energy and “danceability” – Dustin was drawn to the saxophone at a young age largely due to pop/rock music that featured horns – such as Mighty Mighty Bosstones' The Impression That I Get, Men at Work's Who Can It Be Now, Hall & Oats' Maneater, and many more.
During his time at the University of Calgary Music Department, Dustin had the pleasure of studying and taking masterclasses with amazing saxophonists, including, Dr. Jeremy Brown, Dr. Holly DeCaigny, Ramon Ricker, Richard Harding, Nobuya Sagwa – as well as many others. As a performer and clinician around Calgary, Dustin has performed with many local community musicians and groups of all genres, including the Calgary Wind Symphony, Calgary Metropolitan Winds, Alberta Winds, Stampede Showband, Elvis Tribute Artist Adam Fitzpatrick, and Southern Stardust Big Band. Dustin looks forward to leading the Band of Outriders to be one of the top ensembles in the city, with an emphasis on musical execution, audience engagement, and high energy performances
