Dave Jensen

Band of Outriders, Director

Dave Jensen is a born-and-raised Calgarian with over 30 years of experience as a music educator.  He began his music teaching career as a fun-loving and high-spirited sousaphone section instructor at the Calgary Round-Up Band way back in 1995. As the years progressed, Dave added other titles to his Round-Up resume including Leadership Instructor, Special Events Coordinator, Brass Coordinator, Music Director, Assistant Director, and eventually Band Director.  Dave "retired" from the Calgary Round Up Band in 2008.

Dave has been a member of the Golden Rams Marching Band, the Calgary Stampede Show Band, and the Calgary Stampede Band of Outriders.  He has also performed with local music ensembles such as Altius Brass and the Calgary Concert Band.  Dave attended the University of Calgary and received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Secondary School Education in 2001, followed by a Bachelor of Education Degree in 2004.  

Dave has worked as a Band Assistant at Central Memorial High School, a studio teacher at the Cochrane School of Music, and a private brass teacher throughout Calgary.  He was the Director of the Calgary Ismaili Muslim Marching Band from 2000 to 2006.  Beginning in 2004, Dave has held several teaching positions with the Calgary Board of Education, including Music Director at Georges P. Vanier Junior High School, Vista Heights Elementary School, Nickle School, and Willow Park Arts-Centred Learning School.

Since 2010, Dave has held several volunteer positions within the Calgary Stampede organization.  He has served on the Visiting Bands Committee, the Guest Bands Committee, the Western Showcase Committee, the Art Show Committee, and is now a proud member of the Taste of Stampede Committee.  In his spare time, Dave also enjoys volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross as a member of the Alberta Emergency Response Team where he responds to disasters and emergencies by providing assistance to impacted individuals in need.
