Membership is open to students between the ages of 16 and 21 from Calgary and the surrounding area. You should have past musical or dance experience, however marching experience is not necessary -– but you must have a strong desire to further develop your musical skills and showmanship. Annual fees cover uniforms, equipment, instruction and local travel. Annual tour costs are additional, but fundraising options are available.
A high level of commitment and dedication to the group is expected of all members. Rehearsals throughout the year take place on Tuesday evenings, as well as one full-weekend band camp each month. Prior to Stampede, a week of full-day rehearsals ensure that members are well prepared for the 10-day celebration.

What’s it really like?
Here’s what current and past band members have to say about their experiences with the Stampede Showband:
“There’s nothing better than Stampede Week. Sure, it’s more demanding than anything you’ve ever experienced, but it’s also a lot of fun!”
“This band has taught me to take risks, and to believe in things greater than myself.”
“Few things in my life have given me greater pleasure than representing the Stampede as a member of the Stampede Showband. I’ve been out of the band for three years and I’m still proud to be associated with such an exceptional group of people.”
“The instructors really understand what you go through as a band member – they were all members themselves!”
