Josh Malate 

Artistic Director

Josh Malate is Artistic Director of the Calgary Stampede Showband, leading the creative production of its innovative performances. A Showband alumnus, his marching arts experience includes the Sound of the Rockies High School Band, Allegiance Elite Drum & Bugle Corps, and the world-renowned Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps.

Before returning to the Showband, Josh spent seven years as Program Coordinator for Sound of the Rockies and founded Rhapsody Winter Winds, Canada’s first winter winds ensemble, leading it to a WGI Super Regional Championship in California. He is also Founder and President of the Alberta Marching Arts Association, which grows Alberta’s marching arts community through winter and summer competitive circuits.

Outside marching arts, Josh co-founded Ultimarii, an AI platform accelerating regulatory and permitting processes for major infrastructure projects in Canada. He previously co-founded legal technology company Athennian and has launched several other ventures. He’s an investor in more than 30 private companies across Canada, the United States, and the Philippines.

Josh holds Civil Engineering and MBA Finance degrees from the University of Calgary and serves on the boards of Enviros Wilderness School Association, Kids Up Front Calgary, and Inspire Arts & Music (the Boston Crusaders).
