Luke Duncan

Drumline Instructor

I am committed to fostering an environment in which all members can develop and realize a lifelong love for music and active living. Whether it's on tour, in subs rehearsal, or full ensemble I believe the marching arts can instill some of life's greatest lessons and provide a space for positive connection.

My path with the marching arts began with the Red Deer Royals in 2013 and marks the first date I hit a drum. With the Royals I learned a range of front ensemble instruments and marching percussion instruments. However, most importantly I learned that the band was a place for me to thrive for years to come. In 2019 I joined the Calgary Stampede Showband, that year I marched the longest parade of my life and earned a gold buckle after competing in WAMSB. Following the pandemic I entered into a non-competitive season of DCI alongside the Spirit of Atlanta, and the subsequent year I achieved second place in DCI with the Boston Crusaders in 2022.

The unseen hours of practice that the members pour into their craft never fails to inspire me during the season. Each little improvement takes big commitments, and helping students understand consistency while seeing their passion for the marching arts is something that makes my job so special.
